Beta-Elimination reaction takes place resulting in but-2-ene.

Mechanism :

  • HBr attacks on Br and OH.
  • -Br gets attached with Br from HBr to form Br2.
  • -OH gets attached with H from HBR to form H2O.
  • Then double bond forms between the C-C atoms.

C-C-C-C ----HBr----> C-C=C-C
