when 4.2 g of NaHCO3 is added to solution of CH3COOH weighing 10.0g it was observed that 2.2g oof co2 is released into the atmosphere the residue left is found to weigh 12.0g show that these results agreement with the law of conservation of masses

according to law of conservation of mass

NaHCO3 + CH3COOH = Co2 + residue
4.2g + 10.0g. = 2.2g + 12.0g
14.2g. = 14.2g
So the masses are same before and after the reaction therefore results agree with the law of conservation of masses

Answer: The law of conservation of mass is proved below.

Explanation:

Law of conservation of mass states that mass can neither be created nor be destroyed but it can only transform from one form to another. Mass remains conserved in a chemical reaction.

In a chemical reaction, total mass on the reactant side is always equal to the total mass on the product side.

For the given chemical reaction:

NaHCO_3+CH_3COOH\rightarrow CO_2+\text{residue}

Total mass on the reactant side = [4.2+10]g=14.2g

Total mass on the product side = [2.2+12]g=14.2g

As, the total mass on the reactant side is equal to the total mass on the product side. Thus, law of conservation of mass is satisfied.
