Let the number be x.

Four times the number = 4x.

4 subtracted from 4x = 4x - 4.

Given -:

We get 44 after subtracting 4 from four times a number.

According to the question,

$4x-4=44$

$4x=44+8$  (Transposing the digits).

$4x=48$

$x=\frac{48}{4}$  (Transposing the digits).

$x=12$.

Thus, the required number is 12.

To verify the answer, just do this -:

According to the question, we should get 44 after mutiplying the required number by 4 and then subtracting 4 from it.

The required number "x" = 12.

So, lets multiply 12 by 4. 12 * 4 = 48.

We get 48, now lets subtract 4 from it. 48 - 4 = 44.

By applying the given conditions, we get 44.
