Let, the length be l and the breadth be b.

After the subtraction of 15 from both the length and the breadth, they be (l - 5) and (b - 5)

Thus the perimeter be

2 {(l - 5) + (b - 5)}

Given that,

2 {(l - 5) + (b - 5)} = 26 .....(i)

Or, 2 {l - 5 + b - 5) = 26

Or, l + b - 10 = 13

Or, l + b = 13 + 10

Or, l + b = 23,

which is the required mathematical expression.

Note : You can also use equation no. (i) to express the given statement mathematically.
