Answer:

There is a consistent increase in the number of electrons at the 4f level, and level 5d remains unoccupied. In cerium, at the 4f level, there are two electrons - one due to an increase in the sequence number as compared to lanthanum by one, and the other goes from 5d-level to 4f.

Question : When 5d orbital is complete then entering electron will go...

Answer : 6p

explanation : According to Afbau principle, electrons of lower energy levels are filled first by atomic orbitals before occupying electrons of higher energy levels

using (n + l) rule,

n is principle quantum number and l is azimuthal quantum number..

for 5d

n = 5 and l = 2 ⇒(n + l) = 7

so, energy would be either 6p because n = 6 and l = 1 = 7 , but 5 < 6 so after 5d, electron will go to 6p orbitals.

Therefore answer would be 6p
