     as body is falling downward, a constant force ( gravitational force acting on this body) so the acceleration of the body also remains same.

      potential energy depends on the height of a body from the ground. if a body is dropped from a tower, height of body from the ground will decrease so the potential energy of the body will decrease.

      but velocity of the body changes because a constant acceleration (acceleration due to gravity) is acting on this body.
