When a body is projected into air with certain initial velocity making an angle with the horizontal, it will travel in a parabolic path.
a) What are the vertical and horizontal components of velocity? [1]
b) with a diagram derive an expression for:
i. Maximum height ii. Time of flight [4]
c) A ball is dropped through the window of a train travelling with high velocity, to a man standing near the track. The ball…………

Answer:

the horizontal component would be the horizontal speed which the body was thrown in the horizontal axis, it would decrease until it would become 0 due to air friction.

the vertical component is the speed which the body was thrown in the vertical axis. it would decrease due to gravity and air friction, but when it reaches 0 it start to increase due to gravity until it reaches the ground.

because of air friction the path the body would take wont be parabolic. it would be parabolic only if the air friction is negligible
