when the boy sit in a car or any other vehicle , then he will be said t be a state of rest with respect to car and state of motion with respect to surrounding s.

When an object changes its position from the original position or the reference point with the passage of time,then it is said that the object is in motion.
When an object doesn't changes its position of the reference point with the passage of time, then it is said that the object is at rest.
