when a book is dropped from a table it falls towards the earth but when it is placed on the table it does not fall towards the earth. will the gravity is still acting on it. Explain

Hey MATE

When the book is dropped freely the gravitational force acts upon it to make it fall in the downward direction which is always towards the center of Earth.

But in case when the book is placed on a table a contact force is applied by the table on the book in upward direction.

Although , gravitational force is acting on the book kept on table but an opposite force exerted by the table stops the work done gravitational force.
