No new substance is formed. In a burning candle both physical and chemical changes take place.

Physical Change:

The melting of solid wax to liquid wax and liquid to vapour form of wax is a physical change.

Chemical Change:

This burning of wax results in releasing of carbon dioxide, carbon soot, water vapour, heat and light. Hence it is chemical change.

Hope this helped.

Explanation:

When a candle burns, both physical and chemical changes take place.

Physical change → Melting of wax

Chemical change → Burning of wax

Eating of food is another example where both physical and chemical changes occur simultaneously.

Physical change → Breaking down of larger food particles into smaller particles

Chemical change → Digestion of food
