When a carpet is beaten with a stick it comes into motion But the dust particles continue to be at rest due to inertia and get detached from the carpet..... .....

Answer - This is due to inertia of rest. The dust particles which settle down on the carpet tends to remain at rest, while when we beat the carpet, the carpet comes in motion and the particles in order to maintain the state of rest and because of sudden motion , the dust particles comes down and settle on the floor.
