When a cell reproduces it undergoes DNA replication that is two copies of the same DNA.One for the parent cell itself and other for the inheritance of traits in the progeny or the o ffsprings.
Also any biological process can never be 100% correct.So some error occurs while replication and due to this the progeny undergoes some variation than the parent due to the error in DNA replication.
