Because of Earth’s very large mass, its change in velocity is hardly perceptible. In fact, when the coconut is released, the Earth and the coconut move toward each other with equal and oppositely directed momenta. Because of the Earth’s enormous mass, its motion is imperceptible. When the coconut and Earth hit each other, their momentum are brought to a halt.
