the moist air contains oxygen which will reacts with copper to produce copper oxide .normally the copperoxide will be in green color .this is why the copper vessel is exposed to moist air for long time.it acquires a dull green coating.

When copper vessel is exposed to air turns green in colour due to corrosion. It is so because  the metal reacts with moisture and atmospheric gases to form a mixture of copper carbonate and copper hydroxide, which gives a green colour to the surface of copper vessel.

The reaction is as follows:

2Cu + H2O + CO2 + O2 →  Cu(OH)2  +  CuCO3
