"particles of matter are very small" is the characteristic of matter illustrated by the observation.

(because) :-

even a single and very small particle of potassium permanganate which is not visible by us can change the whole colour of water.

Answer:

Potassium permaganate has small particles also the water has. This is why, when we dissolve potassium permaganate into the water the process of difussion takes place.
