Given:

When a discount 20 % is given on a lunch buffet, the profit is 42 %.

To find:

The profit, when the discount is 15 %

Solution:

Let the marked price of lunch buffet = Rs. 100

When the discount is 20%,

Selling price of lunch buffet = (100 - 20)/100 × 100 = Rs. 80

Let the cost price = x

Therefore, Profit = (80 - x)/x × 100 = 42

(80 - x) / x = 42 / 100

upon solving the above equation, we get,

4000 - 50x = 21x

4000 = 71x

x = 4000/71

x = Rs. 56.33

Therefore, the cost price = Rs. 56.33

When the discount is 20%,

Selling price of lunch buffet = (100 - 15)/100 × 100 = Rs. 85

Therefore, Profit = (85 - 56.33)/56.33 × 100

= 28.67/56.33 × 100

= 50.89 %
