When a doctor is recording your pulse, he is pressing on the wrist exactly in between bone and tendon.

This is the place for the radial artery.

Radial artery is the direct artery from heart carrying blood.

As it is in direct connection with heart the rate of blood flow and pumping capacity can be calculated easily by counting the vibrations caused by heart pumping.
