Answer:

Let the amount distributed to each individual be x Rs.

When the amount was distributed to 14 boys

∴amount received by each boy=14x

When the amount was distributed to 18 boys

∴amount received by each boy=18x

According to question,

14x−18x=80

⇒18×1418x−14x=80

⇒18×144x=80

⇒x=418×14×80

⇒x=5040

Total amount=x=5040 Rs.

GIVEN :-

Firstly each boy got = 5 oranges

Reduced number of boys = 40

therefore each boy got 6 oranges less

TO FIND :-

Total number of boys = ?

Total number of oranges in stock = ?

SOLUTION :-

Let the number of boys be ' x '

Each boy got 5 oranges (given)

Therefore,

Number of oranges = 5x (1)

When number of boys gets less by 40

Number of boys = (x - 40)

Also,

Each boy gets 6 oranges less

Total number of oranges = 6(x - 40) = 5x

6x - 240 = 5x

6x - 5x = 240

x = 240 (2)

Therefore,

Number of boys = 240

Number of oranges = 5x. (from 1)

Number of oranges = 5 × 240. (from 2)

Number of oranges = 1200

FINAL ANSWER

NUMBERS OF BOYS IS 240 AND NUMBER OF ORANGES IN STOCK IS 1200.
