When a gun is fired from a gun, the amount of force F1 exerted by the bullet on the gun is EQUAL to the amount of force F2 exerted by gun on the bullet.

F1 = F2.
F1 is called the recoil force.
F2 = forward thrust force.

The equality is explained by the third law of Newton. For every force (action) there is an equal and opposite force.
