when a heavy piece of furniture to be pulled across the room it becomes easier to do so if we put a large cloth underneath it and pull the cloth rather than just pull the furniture.Explain Why?

this is due to friction which is occurring due to the mass of the ferniture but when we put any clothe under it the surface become smoother which reduces the friction.
