When a horse shoe magnet is dipped in iron fillings, no iron fillings get attracted to the bend portion ... why

Because the poles of the magnet are in the ends of it . And the magnetic power is highest near the poles.

In a horse shoe magnet only the 2 end points are +ve and -ve charged. But in between there is no charge. So no iron filings are attracted.
