first thing it is very deffficult to excite the electron of a hydrogen atom because it contains only one electron which is strongly bounded by strong nuclear force ...so it's ionisation energy is very high but if still the electron is exited then it will absorb large amount of energy to go into it's exited shell and after some time it will come back to it's ground state and it will come back it emitts radiations in the form of visible light
