When A is negative that means than object is in retarded motion?

Acceleration means rate of change in velocity. The object is in retarded motion or retarded or in negative acceleration if initial velocity is more than final velocity.

Like if body starts with positive velocity and then finally stops.

Then a = v-u/t is less than 0.
