If we will remove the oxidation number of 2Mg Its zero(alone elements have 0 oxidation number, according to the rule)
Similarly for 02.
the compound formed is 2Mg0
here oxidation number of Mg is +2
and the oxidation number of 02 is -2
When there is rise in oxidation number the given element is oxidized
Hence as the oxidation number of Mg has changed from 0 to +2 it's oxidized.
Hope this helps plzz press red heart button and mark brainliest

MgO is oxidised because oxidation means addition of oxygen and reduction of hydrogen.. and before reaction oxidation no. of magnesium is 0 (zero) and after reaction oxidation no. of magnesium is +2......addition of oxidation no. is also oxidised... so MgO is oxidised in nature............
I hope it's helpful..... ❤
