All directions are south when you are at the North Pole. Therefore the compass needle would point south.
All directions are north at the South Pole, so the compass needle would point north.
In both cases you would need to balance the compass needle very carefully to get a horizontal direction, because the magnetic field at both geographic poles is close to vertical.
