Previous time=50mins

New time=40 mins

Decrease=50mins-40mins=10mins

Therefore decrease percent=

 \frac{10}{50}  \times 100\% \\  = 20\%

Given - Original and final time - 50 and 40 minutes respectively

Find - Percentage decrease in time taken

Solution - Percentage decrease in time taken to travel between two cities can be calculated by the formula given below -

Percentage decrease = old value - new value/old value * 100

Thus calculating percentage decrease by keeping the values in formula -

Percentage decrease = 50 - 40/50*100

Firstly performing subtraction -

Percentage decrease = 10/50*100

Now, cancelling zero and performing division -

Percentage decrease = 20%

Hence, percentage decrease in time taken is 20%.
