SOLUTION

GIVEN

When a number, x, is multiplied by 2, the result is squared to give a new number y.

TO DETERMINE

Express y in terms of x

EVALUATION

Here the given number is x

Now when x is multiplied by 2, the result is 2x

Now if the result is squared we get

 \sf{ {(2x)}^{2} }

Then new number is y

So by the given condition

 \sf{y =  {(2x)}^{2} }

 \sf{ \implies \: y =  4{x}^{2} }

Which is the required expression of y in terms of x
