When a person takes a bucket to some distance, work done by him is zero, why?
and how the distance is zero. while some distance is covered

when a person lifts a bucket and carries it across a distance, say x m, the force he applies is against the weight of the bucket.......i.e. it opposes gravity........now angle between force and displacement is 90°

so

F×S×cos90° = 0
