When a piece of paper and a coin are dropped from the same height simultaneously. The coin reaches the ground first and paper takes some times in reaching to the ground. It we crumple up the piece of paper in the form of a ball and let the two drop from the same height again they reach the ground almost at the same time. Explain the science behind this activity.

When loose paper was dropped the surface are is larger and therefore experience greater air resistance. But when the same paper is crumbled the surface are for the air resistance to act considerably decreases, though in both cases gravity remain the same

The coin has a smaller surface area due to which air resistance is less. the uncrumpled paper has a larger surface area and due to more air resistance, it reaches the ground later. the crumpled paper had a smaller surface area than the uncrumpled paper due to which air resistance is less and it reaches the ground at almost the same time as the coin.
Hope this helps!
