It's due to Newton's third law of motion
Gravity pulls him downward due to which he exerts pressure on the air particles in the downward direction which in turn exert pressure on him in the upward direction
Initially the pressure exerted by him is more but when the parachute is opened due to the increase in surface area the pressure exerted by the air is increased
