Concept:

By comparing the expressions we can find out the value of any variable.

Given:

A equation of a wave which is y (x , t) =0.01 sin 2π (t - 0.1 x)

where x is displacement and t is time.

The wave is traveling in positive direction of x.

Find:

The wavelength of the wave λ.

Solution:

The equation of a wave is

y (x, t) = A sin2π (t/T - x/λ)

and the equation we have given is

y (x , t) = 0.01 sin 2π (t - 0.1 x)

which can be written as

y (x , t) = 0.01 sin 2π(t/1 - x/10)

On comparing we can say that value of λ is 10 metres

Hence, The wavelength of the equation of the wave is 10 metres.
