when a plastic spoon is rubbed on a woolen cloth and held above a mixture of salt and pepper, pepper jumps to the spoon. is the best reason for this:

a) air pushes the pepper towards the spoon

b) the spoon temporary gets magnetized

d) gravitational attractions pulls the pepper to the spoon

The best reason is the spoon temporarily gets charged with static electricity.

- When we rub the plastic spoon with woolen cloth the free electrons of the woolen cloth gets attached with the surface molecules of the plastic spoon.

- These extra added electrons make the plastic spoon negatively charged. This negative charge is known as the static electricity.

- Due to the presence of this static electricity the spoon attracts pepper to release it's excessive electrical charge. The pepper is attracted because it is lighter and easy to attract by small amount of attraction force generated by the static electricity.
