An object ( here a solid ) is cut by some imaginary cutting plane to understand internal details of that object. The action of cutting is called SECTIONING a solid & The plane of cutting is called SECTION PLANE. Two cutting actions means section planes are recommended.

When a portion of a solid is cut from it by a cutting plane then the rest of the solid is called a section.

  • If you cut a solid by a straight plane, called the cutting plane, then the remaining portion of the solid is termed as a section.
  • These sectional views are varying for depending on different shapes like  prism, pyramid, conical, cylindrical etc
  • It is basically useful in studying the hidden geometry of the parts of the plane.
