F1 (First filial generation) generation is the generation obtained by crossing the first set of distinct parents (Parental generation). The parents are two pure lines ( inbred lines) in case of plants and related species in case of animals.
F2 generation (Second filial generation) is the generation that is obtained by selfing the F1 generation. The F2 generations shows inconsistency with reference to types of offsprings produced. Different types of offsprings are produced, some showing only dominant phenotyes, some showing mixture of dominant and recessive phenotypes , while the remaining show only recessive phenotypes.
