When a ray of light passes from a denser to rarer medium, the angle of refraction would be greater than angle of incidence as the light ray bends away from the normal

When a light ray passes through two mediums of different densities, the straight linear path of that light ray bends at an angle which is dependent on the density difference of that two mediums. This phenomenon is known as the refraction.
Similarly, when a light ray enters in a rarer medium from a dense medium, the refraction angle becomes greater of that light ray because in this situation the light ray bends away at certain angle from the normal expected straight line direction.
