If you know density ρr at some temperature Tr, there is a following formula for density: ρ=ρr[1+b(T−Tr)], where ρ is the density at temperature T and b is called coefficient of cubical expansion, evaluated at reference temperature and density (ρr and Tr).

when a sample of what hot water is cooled slowly to room temperature the temperature of the sample is decreased.

Explanation:

  • This is due to the exchange of the heat between the hot water and their room surrounding.
  • As the room is comparatively cooler as compared to the hot water the room gains the heat and the hot water loses the heat. There is  three ways by which heat is lost. They are conduction Convection and radiation. Due to this there is cooling of the hot water with time.
