When a seed is placed in a cup of water it swells, whereas when a piece of iron is kept
inside a cup of water it rusts. why?
a. A seed swells due to the absorption of water. Iron does not absorb water, but
reacts with it to form rust, which is compound of iron.
b. A seed swells because it has room to accommodate the water molecules,
whereas iron being a solid has the atom tightly packed and there is no room
for water molecules to enter.
c. A seed swells due to diffusion, where as iron is an element.
d. A seed swells because it contains water molecules within, whereas iron does
not contain any water molecules within.
