Question:- When a solid melts its temperature remains the same ,so where does the heat energy go?

Answer :- When a solid melts to form a liquid, the heat energy is utilised in the melting process. Since, every work requires some energy, the melting of solid also requires some energy which is consumed in the form of latent heat .

The heat which is used in changing the state of any matter is known as "latent heat" .

Thus, the temperature remains constant because the heat isn't used to raise the temperature but to change the state of matter .
