yes, the temperature of the solid will remain constant at the time of conversion into liquid state. Now why ?

Listen, actually in order to change a solid to liquid we need to apply heat. Lets consider ice. melting point is 0°C. Before reaching this temperature, on applying heat to it the molecules will gain more kinetic energy. The average kinetic energy of the molecules increase. But when it reaches 0°C, on applying further heat there is no change in the average kinetic energy of the molecules, that is, the temperature doesn't rises. So how is the energy utilised? Actually the heat energy will help the substance to entirely change its state (liquid). This hidden form of energy is also called latent heat.

Melting is a phase transformation when a solid changes to a liquid. When a solid is heated, it's temperature increases gradually till the melting point is reached. At melting point, the heat supplied is used by atoms and molecules to break away from the crystal lattice. In solids, the atoms and molecules are held in place due to strong attractive forces.
