when a stone Falls freely the height it falls is given by the equation h=ut+1/2gt^2 where u is velocity of the stone at the time of drop. Find the dimension and units of u and g.

Venkateshjha: u is velocity.... dimension are l/t
Venkateshjha: g is basically accerlation... dimensions being l/t^2

Answer:

u, is the initial velocity.

g, is the gravitational acceleration.

Explanation:

u, here is 0 m/s, because the Stone is dropped from height h, so it is at rest.

h, here is 9.8 m/s

Answer: u is the velocity, so it must have a unit of m/s and dimension [M*0L*1T*-1]. Whereas g is the acceleration due to gravity, so it must have a unit of acceleration i.e. m/s*2 and unit [M*0L*1T*-2].
