When a stone throw in vertically upward why velocity decreases

its because of its mass which produces a weight in the stone ( in a direction towards the center of the earth )... as u may know that weight is a force...so it acts in a direction opp to tat of the motion of the stone..and thus reduces the net upward force on the stone...and decelerates it....
