Thus the frequency of tuning fork A will be 259 Hz.

Explanation:

We are given that:

  • Let unknown frequency be = A
  • Known frequency "B" = 256 Hz
  • Number of beats produced "x" = 3

Solution:

Now the difference between nA and nB

nA - nB = x

By changing the sequence

nB - nA = x which is wrong

Now

nA  = nB + x  = 256 + 3 = 259 Hz

Thus the frequency of tuning fork A will be 259 Hz
