When a vernier calliper is used to measure external and internal diameters of an aluminium tube, the
division coincides with the main scale, calculate the length in centimetres.
observations were made as follows:
For external diameter:
Main scale reading = 2.2 cm
Vernier coinciding division = 4 and
For inner diameter:
Main scale reading 1.8 cm
Vernier coinciding division = 8
If the least count of vernier calliper is 0.1 mm, find the thickness of the wall of the tube.

Answer:

Standard V.C. , 1 MSD=1

Least count (L.C.) = 0.02

De= M.S.R + V.C.D x L.C.

   = 22 mm  + 4 x 0.02 mm

   = 22 mm +  0.08mm

   =22.08 mm

   Di = MSR + V.C.D. x L.C.

         = 18 mm  +  8  x  0.02 mm

         =   18 +0.16

         =    18.16
