The statement is an application of:

Newton's 1st law of motion (Ans)

Also known as Law of Inertia. Inertia is the tendency of any body to resist its state of rest or uniform motion until and unless expelled by a external unbalanced force.

➤ Explanation of Answer:

  • Wet piece of cloth was at rest initially. When we applied external force on it and shaken the cloth, the water droplets initially at rest got detached and fall down. The Water droplets showed Inertia of Rest.

There are several applications of Law of Inertia. Laws of Inertia are of three types :

  • Inertia of Rest
  • Inertia of Motion
  • And, Inertia of direction

Inertia of rest is shown by stationary body which tries to resist its state of rest unless compelled by external force. Inertia of motion by a moving body when it is suddenly comes to rest, it resists it state of motion. And, when direction is changed, a body tries to maintain its direction.

☀️ Let's learn something about other two laws of motion:

  • Newton's 2nd law - It states that rate of change of momentum of a body is directly proportional to the applied force and acts in the same direction as force.
  • Newton's 3rd law - Every action has its equal and opposite reaction. And, they act on different bodies, hence they don't cancel each other.

\checkmark\:\rm{\underline{\purple{\boxed{Newton's\:First\:law\:of\:Motion\:}}}}

EXPLANATION :-

☞ when a wet piece of cloth is shaken the water droplets fall-off . This is because,

  • In the beginning both water and the piece of cloth were at rest .

  • when piece of cloth is shaken, it sets into motion .

  • The water in it tends to remain in the state of rest due to the inertia of rest .

  • As a result, water falls down in the form of droplets .

♻️ Newton's first law of Motion

✔️ Also, known as Galileo's law of Inertia .

☞ A body which is at rest is continuously at rest position and a body moving with uniform velocity is continued to be in the same uniform velocity, unless an external force is applied on it.

INERTIA :- Inertia is the property of the body due to which body opposes the change of it's state . Inertia of a body is measured by mass of the body .
