Answer:

When an acid and a base are placed together, they react to neutralize the acid and base properties, producing a salt. The H(+) cation of the acid combines with the OH(-) anion of the base to form water.

When acid and base react with each other then salt and water are formed.

  • The chemical reaction between the acid and the base is popularly termed as the neutralization reaction.
  • In these neutralization reactions, the salt and water are produced which are both neutral in nature. Formation of the neutral products is a reason behind the naming of neutralization reaction.
  • For example, we can take the reference of the chemical reaction between NaOH (base) and HCl (acid).

NaOH + HCl = NaCl + H2O

  • In the above mentioned chemical reaction, sodium hydroxide which is a base and hydrogen chloride which is an acid, reacts with each other to form sodium chloride which is a salt and water.
