Zn + 2HCl =ZnCl2 + H2
simple displacement of hydrogen from its compound by zinc.zinc lies above hydrogen in the activity series and thus replaces hydrogen as a more reactive metal displaces a less reactive one.
effervescence is observed due to hydrogen liberation and colourless zinc chloride solution is formed.
