When ammonia gas is dissolved in water, is the water behaving as an acid, as a base, or neither? explain?

Ammonia behaves as base in water because it has tendency to accept protons (H+ ions).After dissolution in water NH4+ ion is formed which is highly stable due to hydrogen bonding.
Therefore water reacts as acid.
