When an object is placed at a distance of 60cm from a diverging spherical mirror, the magnification produced is 0.5. where should the object be placed to get a magnification of 1/3?

Magnification is 1/2

So, - V/U = 1/2
- V/-60 = 1/2
- 2V = - 60

Therefore, V = 30cm

Now,
V=30cm
U is unknown
M=1/3

-V/U = 1/3
-30/U = 1/3

Therefore U is equal to -90 cm

Thus the object should be placed 90cm away to get a magnification of 1/3
