When object is thrown vertically upwards, the highest point the acceleration of the body is equal to ACCELERATION DUE TO GRAVITY.

But why?

  • Let's assume that an object has been thrown from the ground vertically upwards with the initial velocity of 'u' m/s.

  • Now, the max height reached will be h = u²/2g.

  • At the maximum height, the final velocity of the object will be zero.

  • However, object will still experience the pull of earth's gravity downwards (i.e towards earth). So, the the acceleration of that object will be equal to the acceleration due to gravity.

  • So, even at the highest point, the acceleration will be 9.8 m/s².
