when an observer at a distance of 12 m from a tree looks at the top of the tree the angle of elevation is 60° ,then to find the height of the tree ,see the attached figure;

Since it forms a Right angle Triangle,location of man C,

BC =12 m

AB= height of tree

we know that
tan \:\theta = \frac{perpendicular}{base} \\ \\ tan\:\theta = \frac{AB}{BC} \\ \\ tan \: 60° = \frac{AB}{12} \\ \\ \sqrt{3} = \frac{AB}{12} \\ \\ AB = 12\sqrt{3}\\ \\ AB =12\times1.73 \\ \\ AB= 20.76\: m\\\\
Thus height of tree is 20.76 m.
